Design Process 2

In this part of the project we went to the “Tilo’s garden” to measure the area and create a mental picture of our Coffee Shop. We also took a few pictures of the place and started suggesting new ideas and contributions for our project.
To measure the area we used a metre rule (which our teacher lent us)  and to take the pictures we used our mobile phones.
As there were some children playing in the area, we found it a little bit difficult to measure the length of the square, but we finally managed to do it.
As we were trying to picture the building, we realised we had two problems:

First of all, in the middle of the area we chose to build the Coffee Shop there’s a big tree (the Tilo which gives the garden its name). We were concerned it would be an impediment to carry on with our project and we didn’t want to cut it off. Finally we came up with the perfect solution: Keeping the tree as a part of the Coffee Shop. We think it would give it a nice touch of freshness, and it could be used by the primary students to hang up drawings and crafts.

We also realised that if we built the Coffee Shop in this area we would block the entrance to the secretary’s office. This would be easy to solve, as we could easily hang up a sign indicating that whoever wants to go to the secretary office is allowed to go across the Coffee Shop.
